Although essential oils are amazing they must always be used with safety in mind.
Please read through these guidelines for some basic information, however please remember that these are just guidelines. I am in no way a medical professional and if you have any further questions regarding the medicinal properties of essential oils you must speak to your local doctor or qualified aromatherapist.
When using oils topically it is important to dilute them with a carrier oil, such as
Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO)
Always use carrier oils when applying oils to babies, children or those with sensitive skin, and make sure to do a spot test first. This means to apply a small amount to an area and see if there are any reactions.
If you have a reaction please discontinue using that oil and clear the affected area with a carrier oil or pure vegetable oil.
Depending on your intended use, dilution can vary. Please refer to the dilution chart for a guide on recommended dilution.
When it comes to babies, 1 drop per 20ml of carrier oil is recommended. My best tip for this is when making up a roller, apply 1 drop to the 20ml, put half in a 10ml Roller Bottle and use the other half to make up another roller bottle for yourself. This saves on any waste!
Taking oils internally
Mindful Galaxy does not partake in this method of oil use so we cannot give any further information. If you wish to learn more about this then you must consult your doctor or a qualified aromatherapist. Please remember that a lot of oils are not intended for consumption and it is vital to always read the label and do independant research.
Never give oils internally to infants, children or pets.
Oils when pregnant or nursing
A lot of gentle oils are deemed safe to use during these times, such as lavendar or lemon. Oils such as peppermint can reduce the milk supply in some women so try to avoid these during this wonderful time in your life.
Those with health issues and medication
Essential oils can have a great benefit for those with medical conditions such as asthma. Never stop taking your prescribed medications without consulting your doctor first. It is also a good idea to consult with your doctor about your new found oils and ensure that they are not going to have any conflictions.
Those with epilepsy should be cautious or avoid fennel, basil, birch and digestive blends.
Those with high blood pressure should be cautious or avoid rosemary and thyme
Less is more
Essential oils are wonderfully pure concentrates. One to two drops is considered plenty.
If you are unsure about the appropriate amount please refer to the bottle and/or our dilution chart.
Essential oils can also benefit pets, however some should be kept away from your furbabies. These oils include Peppermint, Pine, Wintergreen and Cinnamon. For an extensive list please partake in independent research.
In the case of an over-use or a bad reaction please discontinue use immediately. If symptoms do not ease up then seek medical assistance.
Always keep essential oils out of reach of children!
Please keep oils away from open flames or any other fire hazards such as sparks.
