Toothache relief

Living on a remote island can be hard, especially when it comes to medical situations.

Our local hospital is great, the staff are amazing and supportive and we have all of the basic services we need to get us through the day.
However, a lot of bigger issues, such as my impacted wisdom tooth, require a flight off island to get it fixed.
This is a very costly experience. The flight is paid for by the hospital but you have accommodation, travel, food and then the medical costs to cover.

Over the last few months my tooth has gotten more painful. I am yet to be able to fly off island so I have had to find an alternative to get me through the more painful days.
I was standing in the spice aisle at the store and looking at the cloves, thinking back to when I was younger and my grandma used to make me shove cloves on my tooth to numb the pain. It worked every time but was uncomfortable and gross!

Then it occurred to me – I have clove oil! Why am I standing here, about to spend money, when I have exactly what I need at home!
So that is what I did!!

I got a small container, added a few things and then voi la! The pain was numbed and I was praising my essential oils once again!

Now as a lot of you probably know by now, I am not one to ingest essential oils. This kinda falls under that category.
I guess this will be my first step into that world, but I am still not doing what I don’t feel comfortable with.

So why is clove so ideal for tooth pain?
It all lies in its amazing properties, which include

  • High in antioxidants
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Anti-bacterial
  • Anti-fungal; and
  • Antiseptic

How to make your own toothache relief

You will need

  • A small container/jar
  • Coconut oil
  • 3-5 drops of Clove oil
    • I also added a drop of Copiaba for good measure! (You can get them both here)
I used this specific coconut oil as this is the one I use for oil pulling

How to make it

Simply add all of the ingredients in a small jar and use a small cotton swap to apply to the toothache when required.

Always remember to use caution when using essential oils. You can read a safety guide here.

And that’s it! I love this super simple blend soooo much that I thought it deserved its very own photo shoot.

If you try out this recipe then I would love to see your end result!

Great post Jess … You can also get immediate relief from toothache by using reflexology to massage the pain away. Place your hands, palms down, in front of you and pick the finger/s which most closely correspond with the aching tooth on either left or right side. Sore point/s can be found at the end of your matched fingers and by simply kneading the tip between the first joint and the nail until the soreness there dissipates and you’ll find your toothache will quickly vanish. Give it a go and be amazed. Get hold of a copy of Miriam Carters, “Reflexology” for that remedy and a host of others too.
